Rick Leary
As Head of CG, Rick looks after shows, from initial discussions through methodology and shooting to producing final content, he's responsible for the day to day of delivering cutting edge CGI for Visual effects.
Rick began his career in the early 90's, starting out in the games industry then moving into VFX when he joined Double Negative in 1998. At Dneg, Rick has supervised over 20 feature films and until recently was the Global Head of CG at Dneg. Rick feels strongly about embracing new technologies and approaches.
Q&A
My biggest mistake...
I wish I had better understood the importance of maths. At school it was a dry, dull subject which I couldn't wait to drop but in my professional life it has become something of an enthusiasm, from statistics to vectors I wish I had known how useful and empowering it would be.
When I am not working...
I'm a great aviation enthusiast and a keen designer, builder and flyer of aircraft. Due to budgetry and space constraints they're mostly 5 or 6 ft wingspan and radio control but you can dream....
Being in my late teens in Manchester just as the whole 'Madchester Sound' happened. I refused to pay to see The Stone Roses becuse they were always too stoned to play and who the hell are Oasis anyway..... Right time, right place, wrong attitude.
